We all now that on January 25th google changed it's doodle at www.google.com.kw to celebrate Kuwait independence day. thing is, Kuwait independence day is on February 25th. that makes Kuwait the only country so far to have two different doodles in the same year.

5 youngsters were killed in car accidents due to leaving their vehicles, it was hard to get their bodies out due to extreme road congestion.
A women managed to get a broken back , unknown reason, probably car accident.

I already got my ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System Lead Auditor Certification. once I pass OHSAS 18001 , I will have to take ISO 14001 Environmental Management System Lead Auditor certification, and that will take a load off my chest. Below are some basic FAQ's.

So you are asking, what's the whole mumbo-jumbo OHSAS 18001:2007 scene ?

BS = British Standard
OHSAS = Occupational Health & Safety Assessment Series
18001 = standard number
2007 = Issue year

So whats BS OHSAS 18001 ?

It's a British standard(requirements) Internationally implemented and recognised for Occupational Health & Safety. OHSAS 18001 is audit-able and companies get certified against it. it contains 4 major clauses. Clause 4 is the only audit-able clause, which consists of 6 sub-clauses, and those 6 cluases contains sub-sub-clauses, etc.

What about BS OHSAS 18002 ?!

18002 is a partner document of the 18001 which contains guidlines for implementing the requirements of 18001. However, 18002 is not audit-able.

Why is it called a series ?

Well, because there is 18001 & 18002 both covering the same concept of OH&S. that, and the Brits like to make things sound more complex than what they really are.

How can a company benefits from OHSAS 18001 ?

1)It helps minimise risk to employees and personnel in the work area;

2)Ensures continual improvement of the company's current OH&S management system;

3)Demonstrates diligence;

5)Gain assurance;

6)Helps insurance claims;

7)Moral obligations toward the community;

8)Declaration of conformance with an internationally recognised standard;

9)Reduction of lost revenue due to production disruption.

10)Helps business public relations, and;

11)Builds reputation and trust among interested parties.

Why its a BS and not an ISO ?

As far as I know, the phrasing and some wording is vague (e.g. refers to records as documents, processes as elements, etc) which is not like other ISO management systems I've studied.

another argument is that , it does not emphasise on the human behaviour, most likely because the culture mentality/awareness level in the UK is decent.However, this is not the case worldwide. So more emphasis on human behaviour must be there for it to be ISO standard.

How long the certification is valid for ?

For organizations, OHSAS 18001 certificates are valid for three years, with surveillance audits held annually.

For Auditors, the certificate is valid for a lifetime. However, auditors must attend 3-day refresher course once a new issue of the standard gets published (e.g. OHSAS 18001:2015)

Since I changed my blog URL at blogger, suddenly I cannot search my posts in google. I assume that it needs a couple of ~~days~~ weeks to get cached or the previous blog theme had some uber meta tags or something, I'm not sure. However, If I googled my old URL it still shows up. ok, enough talking.

Ordering Supplements (diet pills) via ARAMEX

On January 4th 2010 I placed an order at Amazon.com consisting of two bottles of supplements/diet pills (Isatori Maximum Strength Lean System 7) to be shipped to my US ARAMEX* address with other side orders (BB accessories etc).I received all items (except the supplements) delivered to my door on January 21st 2010, they arrived at ARAMEX Kuwait around January 15ish. I actually googled if ordering supplements via ARAMEX is prohibited since drugs is in the prohibited items. it's just wrong to include the word drugs like that by itself in the prohibited items list. supplements contain drugs, so does coffee, chocolate, and other over-the shelf items. I couldn't find a clear answer whether supplements are considered drugs according to ARAMEX, I didn't wont to call customer service and argue over the definition of the word drugs (does that include legal drugs, such as pain killers ?) anyway, I went a head and ordered the supplements, and they got delivered to my door yesterday February 2nd 2010. I asked Amazon for a refund, I thought the item never passed customs clearance, and they send me an email telling me that I should get my money back within 10 days. I haven't checked my prepaid credit card balance yet, but amazon service cannot be surpassed. I will contact amazon.com and see if they want there money back since i got the item.

* for those of you wondering what the hell is ARAMEX, its a private mailing company which allow people who live outside the US to have a P.O BOX in the states or the UK. it's very usefull when ordering from websites which only ships to US addresses. However, In retarded countries with a poor post mail service, ARAMEX (and other similar services from DHL, etc) is your only hope for internet shopping.

Japanese Scientists Create Elastic Water

Bernama, a part of the Malaysian National News Agency, reports that Japanese scientists have created “elastic water." Developed at the Tokyo University, the new material consists mostly of water--95-percent--with an added two grams of clay and organic material. The resulting substance resembles jelly, but is extremely elastic and transparent.

The invention was originally revealed last week in the latest issue of the Nature scientific magazine. According to the article, the new material is quite safe for the environment and humans, and may be a “long-term” tool in medical technology, possibly to help wounded or surgically cut tissue to remain closed.

Bernama also reports that--by increasing its density--the new material could be used to produce "ecologically plastic materials," or could replace plastic altogether. This aspect is still under investigation until September 2010. However, if successful, the scientists may have found a way to make the world a little greener.

10 12 bad things about the Blackberry Bold 9700

Here is a list of my first impression of the BB. I tried listing the bad things because listing the good features would require writting a book. I like the BB but I might have second thoughts next time I'm looking for a smartphone.

1) E-mail zoom function: One thing I noticed about the BB is that when I receive an email I cannot zoom in or out. This function is handy when the email message is in picture format. even if try to save the image it's still low resolution in the bb and hard to read.

2) Internet shortcuts/bookmarks: This is as stupid as the cut/paste function used to be in the IPhone. adding an option to have Internet shortcuts in your home screen is definitely a plus.

3) Receiving files via bluetooth: I know so many people who thought their BB is broken or cannot except files through another device unless its a BB ( I know RTFM). However, IMHO having to go and activate the receive via bluetooth every time you wanna send something through bluetooth is annoying. Having a pop-up message to ask you to activate this function when someone tries to send you a file is +1.

4) Poor range of apps options: I'm still not sure if this is a good or a bad point, but I liked installing apps on my Iphone and Symbian phones. installing too much apps will make your device run slower due to lack of memory , hence draining the battery faster. but its still fair to ask for a wide range of well supported apps.

5) Appworld: should have been released on April first, its gimmick at the moment. It got potential, however.

6) Viewing PDF files: why is it so hard for RIM to let us view PDF saved on the SD card ? the absence of native PDF viewer is absurd. the only way at the moment which I know of to view PDF files is to attach the files in an email and send them to yourself (because the processing of such files happens on the server side). but wait ! you cannot send yourself an email from the same account otherwise your blackberry will not show it at all. you have to send it through another email (e.g gmail to my work address or vise versa). after all PDF files are essential office document format, IMHO this is utterly absurd !

7) Network reception: is mediocre. my cheap Nokia phone gets better network reception than this.

8) Long booting time: an astronomical booting time record of 2 minutes and 20 seconds !!! my netbook with linux installed boots in 40 seconds more or less.

9)Battery pull: this is the most ridicules official fix I've ever known. pull the battery while the device is running to perform what's called a "hard pull". It's just like buying anew pc and to solve most of the problems is to reboot every now and then ( no hard feelings MS Windows fans) and you have to wait 2m20s each time you do that.

10) Themes: lack of default themes. I got my device with only one theme installed. I don't care much about the default icon shapes/graphics I like them. However, the home screen has lots of wasted space. only If it was possible to rearrange the icons at the home screen, add more than 6 icons, display sms emails missed calls or IM's without having to purchase for a so called theme. after all the internet is free (sort of), thanks Google !

11) Updates: updating your BB OS or software is like working part time beta tester for RIM. if the update is beta or has known bugs it should be displayed clearly.

12) Mobile carriers: having bought a BB I feel so restricted with what the carrier servers/systems has installed. My point is, you cannot install Appworld if your carrier has not approved it.... silliest thing ever. I bought a BB and It should be able to run ALL OEM equipment and software regardless of the carrier, wifi anyone ? but it seems that RIM cares more about the mobile carriers than their end user customers.

For anyone who's wondering how to leave caps lock on in the blackberry, you just need to hit two keys, alt + right shift key. to switch to number/symbol mode, alt+left shift key. to switch back again to normal mode, do the steps in reverse ( i.e. shift + alt)

Windows Live Messenger on BlackBerry Bold 9700 (Onyx)

Ok here is the deal. I bought my first Blackberry device last month ( Bold 9700 a.k.a Onyx) and I'm somewhat satifsied with it. the first problem I encountered was logging in Windows Live Messenger from my bb. Everytime I type my username and password a pop-up messege shows up saying I have entered wron email or password. I thought for some reason maybe I could not use my gmail account in WLM for the bb. ( yes, you can

use ANY email adress, even a fake one to login WLM, you have to sign up for Windows Live Passport ( or ID) more info !) although I posted a short answer in my twitter account I feel it needs more explenation.

For some reason beyond my knowledge Windows Live Messenger on the Blackberry will only accept 16 character long passwords. so if you have a 19 character password it won't let you sign in. the workaround is to type your password untill you reach the 16th character then stop and sign in, it worked for me.

Example:

If your password is "ilovepancakessomuch" , sign in normally with your username, but for the password you should enter "ilovepancakessom" ignore the rest of your password and sign in. booya !

I know that it may seem ridicules but it did work for my greater than 16 character password. it seems that this problem only exist on the mobile version of WLM and email accounts with Windows Live Passports (ID's) other than MS emails. The standard PC version will not let you type in a password longer than 16 character anyway.
